Common Cooling System Problems that Result in Overheating

Few things are as stressful for drivers as seeing the temperature gauge climb into the danger zone. Your engine’s cooling system is designed to keep it operating at the proper temperature, but when something goes wrong, overheating can quickly occur. Ignoring these issues risks serious engine damage and costly repairs. At Spectrum Car Care, our local mechanics provide expert cooling system repair in the greater Gilbert, AZ area. Here’s a look at four common causes of overheating. Radiator Issues The radiator is an integral part of the cooling system, and if it’s clogged or leaking, it can’t perform its job effectively. Over time, debris, rust can block the radiator, restricting the flow of coolant. A leaking radiator can also allow coolant to escape unnoticed. Regular flushing and inspections are essential to keep the radiator in good condition and prevent overheating. Low Coolant Levels Coolant plays the critical role of regulating your engine’s temperature by absorbing and dispersing heat. When it’s working properly, it opens and closes at the right times to regulate temperature. But if it gets stuck closed, coolant can’t circulate, causing the engine to overheat. Replacing a faulty thermostat is a relatively inexpensive fix that can save you from far more serious repairs.
